#CES2016 – the short story

#CES2016 – the short story

I had the privilege to visit this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, the world’s largest electronics trade show. This year’s edition started on 6 January and ended on January 9. It is at CES you usually see where the major trends for electronics are heading for the upcoming year and I was there to scout and feel out the venue for possible future involvement.

Almost everyone is there, from the one-product company to the big global players. You can find everything from cables, wall mounts, ergonomic furniture, headphones, speakers, surveillance cameras, television antennas (?), Smart TVs, e-sports gaming in all forms and shapes, microphones, cameras, smart bicycle helmets, watches and smart homes etc etc etc.

And above it all, there are Chinese companies everywhere, both the big names and smaller manufacturers and everything in between, the two most abundant product areas where drones and VR (virtual reality), with drones as without a doubt the hottest product.

Chinese

Since this was my first visit at CES, I cannot compare to the previous years, but one can safely say that Chinese companies really stand out and feels like the future. Companies such as Huawei, ZTE and Letv all felt ultramodern and at the technological forefront. Kodak and Letv had booths next to each other, and it really was the future and meeting the past.

VR (Virtual Reality)

As I recall VR was last year’s ”hot topic” with Oculus Rift in the forefront. Oculus had one of the most popular stands this year and there were also many other companies with VR products and concepts in place. For example, the audio company Sennheiser showed a combination of their headphones and VR glasses.

Drones, drones and even more drones

Drones were seen virtually everywhere you turned your head, felt like all companies, regardless main product area wanted some form of drones in its booth. There was drone in all sizes and shapes even a one person flying drone from EHANG.

Swedish companies: I saw Sudio, Happy Plugs, Ericsson and Zound Industries, the latter two had equally large booths …

Best show: Parrot minidrones

Largest: Samsung

Spectacular: LG’s OLED TV

Did not see: Smart watches
